Abe's of Maine

Abe's of Maine is a pretty diverse retailer, selling photography, video, DJ, GPS and other types of equipment. However, they do carry a selection of Bushnell telescopes and binoculars from Bushnell, Nikon, Pentax, and Canon. They also carry rifle scopes and spotting scopes. Their optics selection is difficult to find in the main menu. However, they are an optics specialist and have been in business since 1979. We recommend doing your research first, but that Abes would be a good retailer to purchase optics from.

Bass Pro Shops

Bass Pro Shops is another mega-outfitter and carries a very comprehensive range of optics targeted at hunters, hikers, bird watchers and outdoorsmen. BassPro.com carries binoculars, night vision, rangefinders, spotting scopes and riflescopes. They also carry red dot sights and marine binoculars. They also carry a healthy selection of the top brands and some options from smaller brands that you might have a tough time finding otherwise. We expect the service level and staff knowledge at BassPro to be pretty high. If you choose to buy from them, please leave feedback to help other users.

Boatersworld sells, as you would, expect boating equipment and accesories for mariners. The navigational optics that they sell include a wide variety of binoculars, monoculars and laser rangefinders. They also sell night vision ystems, including monoculars and night vision goggles as well as more sophisticated mounted FLIR systems. Boatersworld.com also offers a small selection of telescopes by Tasco and Bushnell.

BuyDig.com

BuyDig.com specializes in electronics, video and digital imaging equipment. They carry a selection of binoculars and telescopes from major brands, as well as the occasional riflescope and night vision monocular. Buy dig is an online-only retailer. We have not purchased optics from Buy Dig before. If you do, please share a review of your experience.

Cabelas

Cabelas is a mega-outfitter (we made up that term - it means they carry just about anything you would need for outdoor activities). Cabelas does carry a range of observational optics and hunting optics. The selection of binoculars, spotting scopes and range finders come from a wide variety of top brands including Leupold, Nikon, Steiner, Bushnell and Leica. Their binocular selection covers entry-level to high-end optics. For riflescopes, Cabelas again offers top-quality products from top brands. They also red dot sights, night vision, spotting scopes and range finders. We would expect Cabelas staff to be very knowledgeable given their product selection and the choices of brands they carry.

Discovery Channel Store

The Discovery Channel Store carries optics for astronomy. Their binocular selection is focused on astronomy binoculars from Orion and Celestron. Discovery Channel Store's selection of reflecting telescopes and refracting telescopes is not extensive, but is very well chosen to cover options for beginner, intermediate or advanced observers, as well as having options at a number of price points. They also carry a nice selection of eye pieces, prisms, filters and other accessories. We have not ordered from the Discovery Channel Store so cannot speak to service quality or their product knowledge. Please leave a review if you order from store.discoverychannel.com.

Eagle Optics

Eagle Optics is an optics specialist that focuses on binoculars, spotting scopes, range finders and night vision. They do not carry rifle scopes or gun sights. They carry optics from the top brands including Burris, Brunton, Bushnell, Celestron, Leica, Leupold, Nikon, Steiner, Swarovski, Zeiss and a number of others. Eagle Optics also makes their own extensive line of branded Eagle Optics Binoculars. They carry extensive spotting scopes, night vision and are a top optics retailer. We like their Binoculars Packages and Spotting Scope Packages - kits that include the scope and matched tripod.

Eastern Mountain Sports

Eastern Mountain Sports is an outfitter for outdoor sports and activities. They carry a limited range of binoculars with models apparently selected for hiking, bird watching and backpack camping. EMS primarily carries Nikon binoculars, including the Prostaff, Trailblazer and Sportster lines. Other binocular brands are represented in ones and twos. We expect that customer service and support will be of high quality for binoculars in the applications they are familiar with - hiking, campign, bird watching and nature.

J&R Computer/Music World

LL Bean

LL Bean offers a variety of optics for sale at llbean.com, including riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes and rangefinders at llbean.com. You can expect their selection of optics at your local store to be much less comprehensive, though we have not checked ourselves recently. LLBean.com sells their own brand of binoculars and spotting scopes in addition to optics from Nikon, including a number of their Prostaff line, Bushnell, Swarovski and a few others. We expect quality service form LL Bean, and knowledgeable reps since they focus on outdoor sports.

Overstock.com carries a surprisingly large selection of optics products from top brands. They are a clearance outlet, so stock quantities are limited and the optics product they carry will vary as they sell out. However, their prices are clearance. We suggest looking at Overstock if you already know the exact product you want and they carry it, and if you do not expect to need post-sale product support since they are not an optics specialist.

Overtons

Overtons is a marine products specialist. As you would expect, along with most other products a boater needs, they carry a good selection of marine binoculars. Overtons.com also stocks night vision binoculars, goggles and monoculars to aid in night time navigation. Their product selection is not huge, but is wisely chosen with quality nautical optics representing many of the top brand names.

REI

REI is an outfitter for just about any off-trail outdoor activity. From mountain climbing to kayking and hiking, REI provides respected gear that they make themselves and gear from top brands. REI's selection of optics is limited to models from Nikon, Olympus, Carson and Alpen as well as their own in-house REI binoculars brand. They also carry a few spotting scopes and monoculars from these same brands. While not an optics specialist, REI is a great choice if they carry the product you want. REI has a reputation for quality service, knowledgeable staff and standing behind the products they sell.

Besides cameras, Ritz Camera carries a full range of optics from binoculars, telescopes and spotting scopes and range finders. Strangely, they have a riflescope section but it has no products in it (at the last time we checked). The only major category of optics they don't carry that Optics Pricer covers is night vision. Ritz Camera is a well respected brand with retail stores located around the country. Most retail stores stock photography equipment and supplies, with perhaps a telescope or two. Rock Creek are camping, hiking and mountain climbing outfitters. They have a small selection of binoculars and monoculars from Nikon and Brunton.

Sierra Trading Post

Sierra Trading Post is a general outfitter stocking everything from motorcycle and western gear to outdoor equipment. Their optics choices are primarily binoculars and they carry Nikon, Bushnell, Steiner and Burris. They also do offer a few rifle scopes, mostly from BSA and Brunton. However, binoculars that Sierra Trading Post does choose to stock cover a wide variety of options, price points and capabilities. Given their reputation for quality and our experience, Sierra Trading Post is a good choice when shopping for binoculars.

Target

Target carries a limited selection of optics online at target.com, and occasionally you can find a few binocular models in-stock at your local Target store. However given their buying power Target's prices are usually competitive and their selection of products, while limited in the number of brands they carry, do have quality products at a range of price points - not just entry-level. They have a few telescopes from iOptron and a few night vision scopes by iGen and Yukon. We don't expect Target employees to be optics experts, so recommend that you research before purchasing from them and will not require significant post-sales support.

Orion Telescope and Binoculars operates the website telescope.com and specialize in astronomical instruments including telescopes, astronomy binoculars, astrophotography equipment and a huge variety of accessories. Orion has been in business since 1975 with local retail stores in California and launched telescope.com to expand their business. They are a well respected telescope retailer, selling scopes for evert skill range and across most price brackets. Orion manufactures their own line, but also do carry products from other brands such as Bushnell. We recommend telescope.com and expect you will receive knowledgeable pre-sales and post-sales support.

Telescopes.com is an optics specialist selling strictly telescopes and telescope accessories. They carry most of the top name manufacturers including Meade, Celestron, Barska, Bushnell, Stellarvue and many, many others. They carry a wide selection of telescope eye pieces, filters, tripods and computerized mounting systems. They also carry astronomy binoculars and monoculars. Telescopes.com is owned by the same company that owns binoculars.com. As specialists, their sales and support staff are, in our experience, quite knowledgeable and helpful. Consider telescopes.com if you need a large selection, expert support and good prices.

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

Walmart is THE mega retailers, with large store locations in every state of the country. However, they do make the effort to stock a very wide variety of optics products from most of the top retailers, carrying entire product lines in many cases. They also offer very competitive prices and carry binoculars, a few Night Owl, Yukon and Bushnell night vision devices. Their selection of telescopes from top brands is impressive with over a hundred telescopes. Their riflescope selection leans heavily towards Leupold but they do have a good number of options, and just a couple range finders. We expect most products to be available only through walmart.com, but do expect local Walmart stores to stock a few items form each category. Overall, Walmart and Walmart.com are a good option for optics, with a better selection than some other big-box stores.

West Marine

West Marine has a broad selection of boating and nautical optics. They have a heavy focus on marine binoculars and night vision devices, which obviously are important for boaters as navigational aids. Their selection of binoculars are grouped by those with a built-in compass, and those without. Their binoculars do include an in-house brand, all of which have high ratings on their site. Please, users let us know if you purchase and try these. In addition to marine binoculars, West Marine has a large selection of night vision scopes and high-end FLIR infrared nightvision systems.
